It is located in Shanjiang Town, part of the Fenghuang ethnic culture protection area, and is 18 kilometers away from the Fenghuang Ancient Town. The village has more than 300 Miao households and more than 1,000 residents. As the last ancient village of the Miao ethnic group in Fenghuang to have access to electricity and public traffic, Dongjiu has kept intact its unique Miao traditional ethnic folklore, distinctive living customs and the mysterious Miao medicine.
Surrounded by mountains, the village has beautiful natural scenery. Its Hui-style buildings were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911) , which have been well-preserved with stone walls, stone houses, stone roads, mud houses and ancient stilted buildings. Due to the ancient need of military defense against bandits, every household has a stone wall to protect the family, and all the houses are connected to form a circular layout. It is an outstanding integration of aesthetics, architecture, military science, ethnology, archaeology and geography.
